ABOUT KARIN

Karin is a visual storyteller who delights in tackling complex problems to make other's visions come to life.

Karin is a passionate and detail-oriented professional and enjoys approaching complex problems with a holistic and team-oriented approach. A large part of my success while working with teams stems from my ability to cultivate an intuitive understanding of team members needs and spearheading the project from there.

​Karin is currently the owner and maker at SD Arts Co., a multi-media Etsy store, and the owner and baker of a small cottage bakery, Karin’s Kitchen. Both businesses were born at the start of the 2020 pandemic after being laid off from a much-loved theatre career due to COVID-19. Prior to being her own boss, Karin was the Properties Master at the Alley Theatre for 16 years, where in addition to designing the annual production of The Santaland Diaries, she managed the props and props team for over 175 productions. Karin also worked served as the Properties Manager at Studio Arena Theatre in Buffalo New York, Merrimack Repertory Theatre in Lowell Massachusetts, and as the Prop Shop Assistant at the Santa Fe Opera.

While at the Alley Theatre, Karin led the restoration effort of the properties inventory after it was flooded during Hurricane Harvey in 2017. This included taking a full inventory of 88,000+ damaged items, the removal and subsequent restoration of all items that deemed salvageable and acting as the Subject Matter Expert to value and catalog all of the items for insurance purposes.

She is an active member of both S*P*A*M (The Society of Properties Artisan Managers) where she currently serves as the Chair of the Publicity Committee and USITT (United States Institute of Theatre Technology) where she serves as the Vice Chair of Properties for the Scenic Design Commission. She has a BFA in Theatre Design and Technology from Florida State University.
